A woman gave a cat a much-needed spare room so she and her three kittens could live a better life.

About three months ago, a pregnant cat with a crinkled ear embarked on a journey across multiple state lines to reach her foster home.

When Heidi Shoemaker, the founder of Foster Kitten Mama, learned that the cat was in urgent need of help, she sprang into action. Thanks to the collaborative efforts of many volunteers, the cat arrived safely in her care after a few days of travel.

The tabby cat was quite thin and needed some good meals to build her strength.

"This poor girl is in rough shape, and she's infested with fleas," Heidi shared.

Heidi immediately got to work, treating the cat for fleas and stomach troubles, and thoroughly cleaning her ears, which were filled with gunk. With proper care and nourishing food, the expectant mother began to relax.

Heidi named her Keeva, meaning gentle, beautiful, and beloved, and settled her into a cozy room equipped with all the essentials.

As if she knew she was in good hands, Keeva went into labor just a few days later. With her foster mom by her side, she brought three ginger kittens (two boys and one girl) into the world overnight.

Free from the stress of the shelter and the uncertainties of the outdoors, Keeva and her kittens started to thrive. "She has been able to sleep, eat, and nurse her babies—not a care in the world, as it should be."

Noticing that one of the kittens was losing weight, Heidi promptly provided supplemental feedings.

"This is why weighing is so important. After that, the kitten started gaining a bit on her own, and I just needed to step in a few more times."

Kinsley, the only girl, was smaller than her brothers (Kane and Kenny), but she had a strong spirit and was determined to catch up in size.

"Keeva is a confident mama who takes care of her babies well, but also likes to take breaks out of the nest. I know she's lived a rough life so far, and I can't wait for her to have her own family."

When Heidi realized Keeva's milk supply was low, she began bottle-feeding all three kittens. "When it rains, it pours."

Even though Heidi didn't get much sleep during those nights, her heart was full as she watched the kittens flourish and their mom embrace indoor living. Once the trio was big enough to leave their snug nest, they graduated to a spacious playpen, ready for new adventures.

Now that the little ones are bigger and more independent, Keeva is starting to play again, rediscovering her youthful spirit.

Kinsley, still the tiniest of the bunch, has the most soulful eyes that could soften anyone's heart. Now that she's eating on her own, she's growing by leaps and bounds.

Kane and Kenny are joyful little dynamos, dashing about and getting into all sorts of playful mischief. "Mama Keeva loves to play, but her babies usually get in her way. She's so adorably unique with her curly ear and her almost always present blep."

With a second chance, Keeva raised her last litter in comfort and safety. Now, she can focus on herself, bouncing around with renewed energy and indulging in all the things that make her happy.
