David Del Rio continues to have the support of his wife, Katherine Del Rio, after being fired from Matlock.

“His wife is standing by him,” friends of the couple exclusively shared with Us Weekly. “They’re a family and staying together.”

Together for 12 years, David, 38, and Katherine share two daughters, including Lilia, 2, and Coco, 8 months.

“Dooty calls,” the actor wrote via Instagram on September 2, when holding his daughter as she sported a onesie with a “two months” button. (Katherine previously confirmed via Instagram that baby Coco arrived in January.)

Matlock's David Del Rio and Wife Katherine's Relationship Timeline

The couple’s love story first began when Katherine saw David performing in the Broadway production of In the Heights.

“At the end, we were waiting for everyone’s autographs, and my dad said to me, ‘Hey, do you want me to get a picture of you with the guy who played Sonny?'” Katherine recalled to Inside Edition in March 2017, before admitting that she had a “little crush” on him.

The pair reconnected three years later at a party for a mutual friend and began dating shortly after.

Love stories aside, David found himself making headlines for his professional life on Thursday, October 9, when Us confirmed the actor was no longer part of the Matlock cast following an investigation into allegations of sexual assault.

The father of two abruptly exited the show after allegedly being involved in a September incident with costar Leah Lewis, Deadline reported. (Us previously reached out to David’s rep and CBS for comment.)

According to the outlet, CBS was alerted to the incident and began an internal investigation immediately. Soon after, David was “fired and escorted off the lot the same day the alleged assault was reported [on October 2].”

Although Matlock was on hiatus from filming when news broke, production is expected to resume on the second half of season 2 after Thanksgiving in November. David’s character is expected to be written off, per Deadline.

While David has yet to address the scandal, his wife posted a close-up photo of Lewis, 28, via her Instagram Stories the same day news broke that David was fired. Across her face, Katherine wrote, “This is the most disturbing human being I have ever met.” (She deleted the post hours later.)

As for Lewis, she broke her silence on the whole situation by sharing a photo with her mother from set.

“Mom is here, we’re moving forward in love and strength. I’m in good hands,” she wrote via her Instagram Story on Thursday.  “Thank you to everybody for any kind of support and care. Truly, we’re moving forward in strength. Key word, strength. Please, let that be the takeaway.”

Prior to the scandal, David and Lewis — who both played first-year associates at Jacobson Moore law firm on the CBS series — spoke highly about one another.

“David Del Rio, who plays Billy, who plays kind of, like, my counterpart, I’ve learned so much about comedy from him,” Lewis exclusively told Us in September 2024. “He comes from a theater background, so it’s like we’re always dancing and twinkling around set.”

In a 2024 interview with Hello!, David recalled the moment he was asked to come in to read “for different Sarah’s and Leah Lewis got the role.”

“That was my choice, by the way,” he said. “I voted for her.”

David Del Rio, Leah Lewis' Quotes About Each Other Before 'Matlock' Scandal

As David begins a new chapter of his life without the Matlock cast and crew, the actor will likely have more time to spend with his family.

In July, David celebrated a milestone in his relationship with Katherine by posting a rare PDA photo.

“From when you said ‘yes’ to be my girlfriend 12 years ago… the ride continues,” he wrote via Instagram at the time. “I love you, Flower Child. 🌹🌹.”
