After having a couple of days to listen to Taylor Swift’s The Life of a Showgirl a few times — or a few dozen times — Jason Kelce realized his brother, Travis Kelce, and future sister-in-law used him to plant Easter eggs about the album.
On the Wednesday, October 8, episode of their “New Heights” podcast, Jason, 37, and Travis, 36, looked back at the episode they recorded in August with Swift, 35, on which she announced her 12th studio album.
“I did not know I was an Easter egg. I was informed of no Easter egging as I was doing the episode,” Jason assured listeners on Wednesday.
The first nod to the album that he noticed came right off the bat, in the episode’s introduction.
Jason Kelce Wants Easter Egg Answers From Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce
“I guess one of the things I teed up, I said, ‘That was a lie,’ as the intro to our episode and it was also obviously a big part of the song ‘Eldest Daughter,’” he said. “So yeah, I was set up.”
Swift repeats the line, “That was a lie,” twice in the song.

“When you found me I said I was busy / That was a lie,” she sings in the first verse, following that with, “Pretty soon I learned cautious discretion / When your first crush crushes something kind / When I said I don’t believe in marriage / That was a lie.”
Travis laughed at his brother’s realization.

“We set you up perfectly,” he said of himself and his fiancée. “I think the fun of the Easter eggs is to always keep it just a little like, ‘Was that intentional?’”
Jason also noticed that Swift discreetly threw a line from “The Fate of Ophelia” at him.
“Somebody tagged me on Twitter when Taylor was like, ‘You don’t always keep it 100, Jason?’ And I was like, ‘I mean I try. I’m trying to,’” he said. “I have Easter egg all over my face.”
In the chorus to the album’s first track, Swift sings, “Keep it 100 / On the land, the sea, the sky / Pledge allegiance to your hands / Your team, your vibes.”
“Keep it 100” is also Travis and Swift’s motto — a nod to Travis’ jersey number, 87, plus Swift’s favorite number, 13. (87 + 13 = 100!)
Travis, for his part, couldn’t take credit for dropping the Easter eggs. When Jason went as far as to call him the “creative muse” behind the album, he instead reveled in being the one who was able to watch Swift throughout the entire process, from conception to reality.
How Jason Kelce Reacted to Taylor Swift’s 12th Album Reveal on Social Media
“I’m just the lucky man that gets to be, you know, the support system for Taylor while she drops one of the coolest albums that I’ve ever listened to, that the world’s seen,” Travis said. “I’m excited for her. I’m happy for her. Everything seems to have gone perfectly, all this planning.”
He added, “You see it from start to finish. She started this thing in the middle of her tour in Europe. To see it all unfold and come together and [for] her connect the dots — from the strategic planning to how the album was all going to look — then listen to the music, and everything comes together.”
