Fans are bidding farewell to Timothée Chalamet’s curls as the actor embraces a fresh new look.

Chalamet, 29, debuted a buzz cut on Tuesday, October 7, during an Instagram Live, in which he teased his new hairstyle while promoting his upcoming movie, Marty Supreme.

In the clip, which he later shared on his grid, Chalamet sat inside a glass box with orange ping pong balls flying around. He wore a large orange ball over his head, concealing his fresh ‘do.

The camera then panned to a number of actors in the same uniform, playing ping pong. It then zoomed back on Chalamet, who left his glass case and took the ball off his head, revealing his shaved head. He teamed his haircut with a blue sweatshirt that had “Marty Supreme” written across his chest, green earplugs and dark gloves.

As the clip went on, Chalamet removed his earplugs and gloves and put on a pair of eyeglasses. Chalamet lifted his hood and shook out loose ping pong balls while walking towards the camera. He started to jog towards a structure and found himself inside a studio set. He sat down and laced up his boots while looking around the room. The clip ended with Chalamet taking a sip of water and saying to the camera, “Marty Supreme is an American film that comes out on Christmas 2025.”

People were quick to share their mixed reactions to his buzz cut via social media. “Why would he do this? He ruined his face card no shade,” one troll wrote, while another added, “Jump scare omfg.” A third quipped that he should “undebut” his hairdo, while another commented, “I have no words.”

While some were not a fan of his clipped cut, others praised the new look. “It actually fits him,” one wrote, while a second added, “Honestly he looks more grown up. It looks good.” A third gushed, “Oh Timmy it’s OK you still look good.”

Chalamet’s hair transformation comes after he donned long curls, which became his signature trademark.

While filming Marty Supreme in 2024, his brunette hair was cut into a neat ’do with the sides of his tresses clipped short. His bangs were parted to the side and brushed down with soft waves.

According to the official movie plot, Marty Supreme follows Marty Mauser (Chalamet) as he “pursues his dream of becoming a champion table-tennis player.”

Chalamet was seen with his freshly cropped hair while out and about with girlfriend Kylie Jenner at a New York City bar on Tuesday.

Before shaving his head, the actor sported long hair in 2023, during his Wonka press tour. For the London premiere, his mane was pushed back with his curls neatly styled and cut slightly past his ears.

He grew his hair out even longer in 2019, and showed off his messy crimps at the Little Women premiere in Paris. At the time, his front pieces were chopped to his cheekbones with the rest of his hair trimmed down his neck.
