Jennifer Lopez is explaining why she’s a quintessential, hopeless romantic who can seemingly create a spark with anyone — on screen, that is.
“I can fall in love with anybody,” the actress, 56, joked during the Wednesday, October 8, episode of Matt Rogers and Bowen Yang’s “Las Culturistas” podcast. “That’s the bad quote from here. But no, my point is I feel like I don’t know if it’s because I’m a romantic and I so believe in love.”
Rogers applauded Lopez for her ability to connect “with so many different kinds of leading men,” from Matthew McConaughey to Ralph Fiennes. (Lopez costarred alongside McConaughey in 2001’s The Wedding Planner and with Fiennes in 2002’s Maid in Manhattan.)
Lopez added that in addition to her previous films, her new movie, Kiss of the Spider Woman, was “only about love” for her.

“I’m able to have that chemistry with people and with all different kinds of people,” she explained. “I’m able to kind of see through this and get to kind of like who is the person on the inside and really fall in love with that person in that moment, like they say in between action and cut.”
Another famous on-screen love interest of Lopez’s was her ex-husband Ben Affleck. The pair connected on the set of their 2003 film Gigli and fell in love. Lopez and Affleck got engaged shortly after but called it off in 2004. They reconnected nearly two decades later and, after a second engagement, tied the knot in 2022. Lopez and Affleck’s marriage came to an end in 2024, when the actress filed for divorce.
Following their split, Affleck and Lopez have remained amicable. Earlier this week, Affleck and Lopez reunited at the premiere for Kiss of the Spider Woman. While rumors swirled of a potential reconciliation for the exes, the pair’s relationship remains platonic — Affleck was in attendance for the premiere since his production company was one of the producers of the film.
In Kiss of the Spider Woman, Lopez plays three roles: Ingrid Luna, Aurora and The Spider Woman. The film centers around a prison inmate named Valentin (Diego Luna) who is recounting the plot of one of his favorite Hollywood musicals that stars his favorite actress, Ingrid Luna. (The roles of Aurora and The Spider Woman are characters in the fictional piece of art.)
Yang was “curious” to know what Lopez thought about the chemistry between her and Luna’s characters, especially when his role is like “a queer person who projects themselves onto you.”
Jennifer Lopez Sings Her Heart Out in 'Kiss of the Spider Woman' Trailer
“He looks up to [her,] he wants to be like [her] and she’s the perfect woman, and in this movie in particular she’s like this siren, and she’s amazing” she reflected. “It’s funny because I identified most not with the Spider Woman, not with Aurora, even though there were parts of me that I feel were very much like each of those characters … but Ingrid Luna was the most like me because she’s an entertainer.”
One of Lopez’s favorite parts in the film adaptation of the Broadway show is the big musical number for “Where You Are,” which Yang described as a “showstopper.”
“That’s where I say to him, ‘Come with me. Let’s escape together. Let’s escape into this song, let’s escape into this movie, let’s escape into this world. Forget you’re in a prison, don’t be where you are. Be with me, let’s go have fun,’” she shared. “I can’t tell you how many times in my own life I have had someone come up to me and say, ‘This song got me through this’ or ‘this movie made me dream and want to do what I’m doing today.’ … The more I keep going, they keep going. When they see me fall down and they see me get back up. But what they don’t realize, and what I love about the movie and I love about that number, is that he saves her, too.”
