GMC’s momentum builds toward record 2025
GMC’s Q3 sales report has revealed that the brand is experiencing its best-ever calendar year to date (YTD), positioning it favorably for a record-breaking 2025. Through Q3 2025, GMC sales in the U.S. were up 10% YTD, representing the seventh consecutive quarter of year-over-year growth. This success, bolstered by a strong electric vehicle (EV) portfolio, was preceded by record U.S. sales in 2024 that rose 10% overall and 33% in Q4. The Sierra pickup has been a driving force behind GMC’s positive U.S. sales trend with its best-ever Q3 and record YTD increase of 12%. The GMC Sierra has also logged 12 consecutive quarters of year-over-year growth, making it the only truck to claim this milestone.

Regarding EV sales, GMC saw a combined 109% YTD increase with its Hummer EV and Sierra EV. GMC Yukon purchases were the highest in nearly 20 years at a 15.97% YTD increase, while Acadia sales rose 30% YTD. GMC has been moving a record number of units in established international markets, such as Canada, Mexico, and the Middle East, but the brand has also expanded into Korea, Australia, and New Zealand over the last 18 months. Let’s take a closer look at GMC’s Q3/YTD success and what it means for the brand, as well as its competitors, moving forward.
GMC ICE truck and SUV dominance
GMC’s positive U.S. sales numbers for its Sierra truck, in addition to its Yukon, Acadia, and Terrain SUVs, show that the brand’s internal combustion engine (ICE) models aren’t losing momentum. The gas-powered Sierra’s unprecedented 12 consecutive quarters of year-over-year growth can be partially attributed to its abundant configurations, available in both the light-duty Sierra 1500 and the Sierra Heavy Duty (HD). A 2025 Sierra 1500 offers eight different trims, while its 2500HD and 3500HD counterparts are available in seven and six trims, respectively.
The GMC Yukon moved 19,991 units in Q3, the most since 2007. While the Acadia had a lower year-over-year Q3 figure, with a 13.63% decline to 12,485 units, its 30.24% YTD growth outweighs concerns surrounding the model’s popularity. In contrast, the Terrain experienced a 16.75% YTD sales drop, but turned heads with a 36.04% year-over-year increase during Q3 at 16,164 units.
Electric vehicle leadership: GMC HUMMER EV and Sierra EV
General Motors is now the U.S.’s number-two EV seller behind Tesla, thanks to the help of GMC’s Hummer EV and Sierra EV. In the U.S., the Hummer EV recorded a 21.86% year-over-year Q3 sales increase at 5,246 units, with a 48.65% YTD surge to boot. While this number of units may seem low, it’s a win for GMC considering the Hummer EV pickup’s $99,540 base price. The newer GMC Sierra EV, which launched for the 2024 model year, recorded a 771.84% year-over-year Q3 U.S. sales surge at 3,374 units while boasting a YTD rise of 1,488.37%. As a result, the Hummer EV and Sierra EV have strengthened GMC’s margin and sales expansion.

GMC
GMC’s 2025 Hummer EV pickup is distinguished by its horsepower and torque maxing out at 1,000 and 11,500 lb-ft, a four-wheel steering Crabwalk feature for diagonal driving, and 12,000-lb peak towing capacity with the 2X model’s Z6X Extreme Off-Road Package. The 2025 Sierra also packs a punch with available 760 horsepower and 785 lb-ft of torque, along with a 10,500-lb maximum towing capacity — all while remaining efficient at 390 to 460 miles of range.
Super Cruise leads the way in cutting-edge tech
General Motors’ semi-autonomous driver-assist Super Cruise technology is rapidly gaining popularity among buyers, and GMC is no exception. The 2025 Yukon Denali/Denali Ultimate, 2024-2025 Acadia, 2024-2025 Sierra 1500, 2025 Sierra EV, 2025 Sierra HD, and the GMC HUMMER EV all offer Super Cruise. This driver-assist system separated itself from the competition as the first true hands-free driver-assistance tech for compatible roads. General Motors had over 500,000 Super Cruise-equipped vehicles on the road as of Q2 2025, representing a year-over-year increase of more than 100%.

Q3 sales surge with detailed growth analysis
Market factors — like the end of the $7,500 federal EV tax incentive, which expired September 30 after being active nearly 17 years — played a central role in helping GMC’s two electric trucks log a 109% combined YTD sales spike. EV sales in Q3 are up 21.1% from the same period last year, and up 30% from this spring, according to Cox Automotive’s projection. Competing EVs like Ford’s Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning also recorded their best sales during Q3, with the brand’s year-over-year Q3 EV sales increasing a combined 30.2%. In December, U.S. consumers also purchased EVs at a significantly higher rate following November’s re-election of President Trump, who ended the federal EV credit during his second term. New EV sales volume rose by 14% month-over-month to 132,392 units during December, Cox Automotive reports.
Sustained growth outlook
Many automakers are predicting that EV sales will crash following the federal tax incentive’s expiration, but GMC is positioning itself to weather this storm by adding two less-expensive options to its Sierra EV lineup for the 2026 production year. The Denali was GMC’s only 2025 Sierra EV, and it wasn’t inexpensive, with a starting price of $89,900. However, the 2026 GMC Sierra EV, which is now available, adds the Elevation trim, starting at $64,495. The 2026 Sierra EV lineup may also attract more premium buyers with its new Denali Standard Range and AT4 trims, starting at $71,795 and $81,395, respectively.

Final thoughts: GMC’s roadmap to continued success
Aside from the federal EV tax credit’s expiration, GMC’s positive year-over-year Q3 and YTD sales numbers can be attributed to its portfolio, which balances the brand’s truck and SUV heritage with innovative EV models and cutting-edge technologies like Super Cruise. Additionally, GMC’s ability to position itself as a premium brand, emphasizing capability, has helped fuel its margin and sales expansion through models like the Hummer EV and Sierra EV. While EV sales will likely decline in the subsequent months, GMC isn’t alone in this, and the expansion of its hot-selling Sierra EV can further solidify the Sierra nameplate’s success.
