University of Miami quarterback Carson Beck opened up about the end of his relationship with influencer and former college basketball player Hanna Cavinder.
“You make mistakes as a person, but it sucks that you have to go through something like that with someone that you care about, and now it’s all over the Internet,” Beck, 22, told ESPN in a story published Wednesday, October 1. “Half of what you see in the media is true. Half of what you see is not true. So, people pick their side of the story and run with it. The people that know the truth know the truth. But it’s been difficult.”
Their relationship first surfaced in July 2024, after Cavinder posted a TikTok video of the couple celebrating the 4th of July holiday together. Cavinder, 24, officially launched their relationship a couple weeks later on social media in a since-deleted Instagram post.
Breakup rumors began in March 2025, when Cavinder wiped her Instagram clean of posts referencing Beck. In April, Cavinder confirmed the split in a video taken from Kai Trump’s YouTube page, saying she was the one who ended the relationship.

“He would flip off people at the bar, and I’d be embarrassed,” Cavinder said. “So I broke up with him, and all this cheating s*** came out. I had no idea. I didn’t break up with him because he cheated. I broke up with him because of who he was.”
Beck and Cavinder have not spoken since their breakup earlier this year, according to his interview with ESPN.
Beck, who transferred to Miami in January after three seasons at the University of Georgia, acknowledged that the public speculation around his personal life piled onto an already difficult year that included elbow surgery and questions about his performance on the field.
“It’s really weird, because my whole life I’ve been very introverted, and whether people believe it or not, I’ve really tried to stay out of the limelight,” Beck said. “A lot of times, in my position, you can’t because there is that hyper focused attention on you. I probably put myself in some situations that wouldn’t align with me saying that I tried to stay out of the limelight, and obviously that’s on me.”
His mother, Tracy Beck, told ESPN that all the negativity “took a toll on him.”

Despite any off-field distractions, Carson has quickly established himself as a leader for the Hurricanes, who are currently ranked No. 3 in the country. Miami head coach Mario Cristobal praised the quarterback’s ability to connect with his teammates after a rocky year at Georgia.
“He is an extremely smart dude, and he’s actually a really good leader,” Cristobal told ESPN. “He connects with people. He could do what we like to do well, and at a high level.”
Beck has led the team to an unbeaten start and says the personal setbacks have forced him to reevaluate himself.
“I’ve been able to connect to myself more, and find who I am, and really do some soul searching,” Beck said. “It’s hard to say that I’m thankful for it all, but I am, because I wouldn’t be the person that I am today without all of these things that have happened.”
