Throughout their marriage, Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman had been asked about each other, but sometimes they seemingly did not want to discuss their relationship.

Kidman and Urban met in 2005 and tied the knot the following year. The pair share two daughters, Sunday and Faith. (Kidman is also mother to two adult children she welcomed via adoption with ex-husband Tom Cruise.)

Urban and Kidman were one of Hollywood’s top power couples and gushed about each other constantly. However, there were moments when they did not want to broach the subject of their relationship.

Many of the moments resurfaced online when Kidman and Urban separated in September 2025. Us Weekly confirmed that Kidman filed for divorce after 19 years of marriage and cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for their split.

Pivoting the Topic

In September 2024, Urban sat down with Australian radio station Gold 1017. Host Amanda Keller asked the musician about the origins of his and Kidman’s love story.

“You met at G’Day Australia, is that what it was called?” Keller asked, before Urban shared the event’s name, which was “G’Day LA.”

Keller then brought up the idea of fate and asked Urban for his thoughts on whether or not he and Kidman would be together if they had not been at the event together. Urban replied, “Yeah, I think it would.” Keller continued to ask Urban if he believed in the concept of fate, and he seemed uninterested in the subject matter.

After Keller tried one more time to get a response from Urban, he said, “Anyway, moving on.”

Setting Boundaries

In an interview with The Times published in July 2024, Urban candidly shared he did not want to discuss Kidman.

“I just don’t want to give you guys a headline about my wife,” he told the outlet.

Kidman did come up at one point in the interview when discussing Urban’s struggles with substance abuse. (Kidman staged an intervention for Urban before he checked into rehab following their wedding.)

“I’d really love to move on from that because before you know it, the interview would be ‘My wife saved my life’ and I don’t want to go there,” he said.

Abrupt Exit

Urban was on Hayley & Max in the Morning to discuss his High and Alive World Tour in July 2025. The conversation took a turn when the hosts introduced a game called the “Wall of Truth.”

“In our ‘Wall of Truth,’ Keith, we often get put into this situation where we have to answer a very tricky question, deeply personal question,” host Hayley Peterson explained. “I get really uncomfortable, to be honest, asking our beautiful guests something they might be uncomfortable [answering].”

Cohost Max Burford then brought up Kidman’s recent project with Zac Efron, A Family Affair.

“I thought, ‘What does Keith Urban think when he sees his beautiful wife with beautiful younger men like Zac Efron having these beautiful love scenes on TV?’” Burford asked.

The hosts were waiting for a response, but Urban seemingly left the video call.

“He’s just disconnected from Zoom,” said another person in the background. “I think his team hung up on us because they didn’t want us to ask that question.”

Urban has not publicly addressed the incident, but People reported via a source that Urban did not hang up the call.

Avoiding the Subject

Months before their separation, Urban appeared on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show in late July 2025. Seacrest, who previously worked with Urban on American Idol, asked the country singer about Kidman.

“Do people tell you your wife is in everything? Nicole Kidman is in everything,” Seacrest said to Urban, who laughed before seemingly trying to pivot the conversation.

“Yeah, she’s almost as busy as you, but not quite — very close though,” Urban responded.

Seacrest continued to gush over Kidman and her recent projects, and Urban replied with a “yeah.” The host then asked Urban about how he and Kidman balance their respective busy careers.

“It’s a job, yeah,” Urban said as he shifted his gaze away from the camera.
