Alan Hamel and Joanna Cassidy’s new relationship is blossoming, and they have decided to share some details about it.

In an interview with PEOPLE Magazine, the former TV host revealed that forming connections with people has never been a hassle for him.

"I know a lot of people and I have a lot of wonderful friends, but I've never gone out of my way to connect with people. It just happened naturally," the “Alan Hamel Show” host confessed.

Reflecting on the friendships he has built over the years, Hamel shared, "These are people that we just met somewhere, and a relationship happened, and it marinated over a bunch of years and brought along other people. And that's really it. I never put any real energy into it."

It was no different with the veteran actress. "I'm blessed. I'm grateful for that. And I'm grateful for the relationship that I have with Joanna. It's very special," Hamel expressed about Cassidy.

Inside Alan Hamel And Joanna Cassidy’s New Romance

During the interview, the Toronto-born got candid with his feelings for Cassidy, emphasizing, "I'm grateful for my relationship with Joanna.”

However, the pair has a conundrum on what title to call each other amid their blossoming love. "We were talking about it the other day — and do you call me your boyfriend, or did we leave that in high school?" the Canadian producer reminisced.

Hamel continued, "It's really weird to use the term 'boyfriend' at this place in life. So we talked about different things like 'companion' and 'partner.'"

In response, Cassidy joked, "You're a buddy," to which Hamel replied sweetly, "You're more than my buddy. You're a lot more than my buddy."

Are Alan Hamel And Joanna Cassidy In Love?

As the conversation continued, the couple was asked if they were in love, and each took a moment to share about their relationship and how they felt about the other.

"I think we're in good shape, and I think who knows where this will go, but every time we are together, it's exciting. It's fun," Cassidy expressed.

Hamel, on the other hand, reflected on the challenges of living in “different cities.” He admitted their relationship would be “a lot easier if they lived in the same city.”

“We've been actually testing, I think so far we've been able to spend six and a half days together, and we're okay with this. Yeah. So I think the next one, we'll probably add another day or two. And so we're doing it very gradually," the former producer added.

How Hamel And Cassidy Stay Connected Despite The Distance

Regardless of the distance and their living conditions, Hamel shared that they enjoyed late-night calls, which could go on for hours, keeping them connected.

The writer recounted Cassidy saying to him, “We speak about things I've never talked to anybody about before in my life,” and he expressed how honored he was by that.

“We get on the phone at night, and sometimes we're on so long that I can almost hear a gentle little snoring sound from the other end." Hamel reminisced.

Hamel opening up about his love story with Cassidy comes after he defended their romance against critics.

As reported by The Blast, the “Razzle-Dazzle” host revealed that his late wife, Suzanne Somers, would approve of his new relationship with her co-star.

He shared that during her last days, Somers encouraged him not to “mope around” but live his life when she’s gone. Hamel recalled that Somers and Cassidy got along well while working together on the 1985 mini-series, “Hollywood Wives.”

He stated that he particularly liked that the two women did not take part in the “Hollywood BS.”

Additionally, Hamel’s son, Stephen Hamel, who didn’t know that Hamel and Cassidy had known each other for decades, spoke to Cassidy about his father. Stephen ran into Cassidy at a film screening and told her he thought she and his father would get along well.

When the “Ghost of Mars” star figured out that his father was Alan Hamel, she said, “I know Alan. Of course, I'd love to see Alan."
