Thursday horse racing tips
YORK
- 1.50: America Queen 11/4 (1pt)
- 3.00: Sisyphean 8/1 (1pt)
- 4.10: Alice Monet 10/1 (1pt) & Butterfly Wings 7/1 (1pt)
- 4.45: Ballistic Missile 11/1 (1pt)
America Queen
It’s Ryan Moore vs William Buick again at the top of the market but both for different trainers instead of for their usual stables.
America Queen impressed on debut for trainer Richard Hughes but is still close to 3’s behind the twice-raced Royal Fixation.
The Ed Walker-trained filly by Palace Pier also won on debut but then placed 2nd next time out, placing just a neck behind Venetian Sun but that was a great show of what she’s capable of.
She was 14/1 last time out but proved she shouldn’t be underestimated going forward.
But you can’t really ignore this Havana Grey filly who won by 12 lengths at 11/8 on debut and has the potential to only get better.
Sisyphean
Beat Sisyphean over course and distance here in July and that was his first run upped to 1m from 7f.
That took his record to 3-4 with his only loss coming at Royal Ascot in a surprising finish that saw a 25/1 winner and a 20/1 second place finish.
Remmooz is up against it here as the three-year-old though and Sisyphean is now only giving away 1lb.
So much so the Dubawi colt has been hammered in over the course of the day ahead of the race tomorrow.
He too has won over course and distance and has a great record here winning once and placing 2nd twice.
He was also beaten by Old Cock here before but also has the swing of the weights again in his favour.
Alice Monet & Butterfly Wings
A big talking point here is the two frontrunners in the betting are owned by the King and Queen in this Class 1 listed British EBF & Sir Henry Cecil Galtres Stakes.
Rainbows Edge trained by Joh & Thady Gosden is a little tough to back as she lost by a neck last time and was a disappointing seventh at Royal Ascot when 3/1 favourite.
But she’s being upped to 1m4f for the first time. The step up from 1m to 1m2f looked beneficial last time out so there’s no reason it shouldn’t spark more here either.
It’s always worth keeping an eye on the horses D K Weld sends over here in Britain, as the trainer has only had 28 runners in the last five seasons.
But with a 22% strike-rate from three-year-olds Alice Monet could be one to keep an eye on.
She was a tough handicap at Leopardstown last time out and the step up in trip suits her pedigree plenty, being by Teofilo, dangerous.
I can also see Butterfly Wings doing better in this field having placed behind Minnie Hauk previously and once placed a few lengths off of Carmers, whereas this is much easier, with 9lb being given from her older rivals too.
Ballistic Missile
James Doyle has a decent strike rate going into this week with 27% at the time of writing, over the last two weeks.
This colt has gone up in distance by a furlong with each run.
Crucially, he was seen at Royal Ascot in the Group 2 Coventry Stakes behind the winner Gstaad at 22/1.
Something was clearly amiss there and as a result went for a wind op just a couple of weeks later.
He returned after a short break to place second half a length behind Harlequin Angel at Newmarket, also his first trip over 7f.
That all looks very encouraging for this two-year-old who has a lot of promise, a good speed that saw him win at 5f on debut and the staying power for 7f coupled with the benefit of the experience already from that wind op.
