Hugo Boss?

New Liverpool striker Hugo Ekitike impressed on his Premier League debut for the Reds, scoring the opening goal of the game and setting up another as the defending champions earned a 4-2 win against Bournemouth on the opening night of the new season.

The French striker, who cost the Reds £82m from Eintracht Frankfurt, had been priced as high as 33/1 to win the Premier League’s Golden Boot this season, largely due to the summer-long saga regarding Alexander Isak’s potential move to Anfield from St James’ Park.

Time is running out in the transfer window though, and with the Isak situation seemingly no closer to being sorted, it’s plausible that Ekitike could be leading the line for Liverpool for longer than had been anticipated.

The 23-year-old, who also scored a smartly taken goal in the Community Shield earlier this month, has now seen his odds slashed to 14/1 to finish the season as the Golden Boot winner.

Leeds to survive relegation?

Monday night saw Leeds become for the first reigning Championship winners to win the first game of their Premier League campaign in 18 years after Lukas Nmecha’s 84th minute penalty gave Daniel Farke’s side all three points from their season opener.

Leeds had been among the favourites for relegation prior to the start of the season, priced at 1/1 to finish in the bottom three, perhaps with the knowledge that all three of the promoted teams across the last two seasons have all been relegated, but last night’s victory has doubled the Whites’ odds for relegation to 2/1.

West Ham on the chopping block

On the other hand, West Ham’s odds for relegation have been slashed following their shock 3-0 defeat to Sunderland, another newly promoted side, a result which has the east London side second bottom of the Premier League table.

Graham Potter’s side have been under fire following their 14th placed finish last season, only once have they finished lower since their promotion 13 years ago, with an uninspiring transfer window, along with Saturday’s result at the Stadium of Light, having fans fearing the worst.

Odds for West Ham’s relegation have dropped from 5/1 to 3/1 following their opening day defeat.

Arsenal pass first tough test in title hunt

Arsenal have finished in second place in the Premier League in each of the last three seasons, and will be hoping this is the season they can finally make that final step as they hunt a first league title since their ‘Invincible’ season, now 22 years ago.

Mikel Arteta’s side passed their first tough test on the opening day of the new season, Riccardo Calafiori scoring the only goal of the game against Manchester United to give the Gunners a 1-0 victory at Old Trafford, a stadium the north London side have historically struggled at.

Victory at the Theatre of Dreams for Arsenal have seen their odds for winning the Premier League title drop from 5/4 to 2/1 with talkSPORT BET.

Chelsea stumble in opening day London derby

The other London side most widely tipped for a top four finish in the Premier League, Chelsea, stuttered to a goalless draw against Crystal Palace in their opener on Sunday afternoon, their first competitive game since being crowned world champions in New York City last month.

The Eagles had a free kick controversially disallowed in the first half but managed which meant the game ended in stalemate at Stamford Bridge, when many had expected the Blues to start the season strongly and perhaps a dark horse for the title, though those odds have now drifted from 6/1 to 10/1.
