Cher is under fire from critics over the way she has handled her son, Elijah Blue Allman's recovery following a reported overdose that led to his hospitalization.

According to reports, the singer is currently more focused on repairing her relationship with her younger partner, Alexander "A.E." Edwards, while her troubled son has been left on the sidelines.

Although Cher and Elijah have had a rocky relationship over the years, friends believe she should channel her attention and efforts toward supporting him to maintain his sobriety.

Cher Has Allegedly Put Son, 'Elijah, To One Side To Have Fun With Her Boy Toy'

June was particularly a difficult time for the loved ones of Elijah Blue Allman, the son of singer Cher and Gregg Allman.

During the month, he was rushed to a hospital after acting erratically for days, with reports speculating that he had overdosed.

And while he has since been released to continue his recovery at home, Cher's disposition toward her son's situation has been slammed by her close circle.

"She was vowing to be by Elijah's side when he came out of his meltdown, but she wants to be with A.E.," an insider told Radar Online, amid reports that Cher was spotted on vacation in Rome with the rapper Alexander "A.E." Edwards.

According to the source, Elijah is currently "working on his demons" to avoid a repeat of the incident, and while having his mother by his side would help, she is "more focused" on Edwards.

"She's put Elijah to one side to have fun with her boytoy," the source added about Cher.

Cher Is 'Desperate' To Keep Her Boy Toy

In Rome, Cher was spotted out and about with Edwards, including a nightclub visit and an appearance at a Dolce & Gabbana fashion show, where the pair wore coordinated outfits.

The PDA-like behavior has prompted insiders to conclude that Cher is devoting most of her energy to making the relationship work, at the expense of spending time with her son.

"She's desperate to hang on to him," the same source said about Cher's relationship with Edwards.

They added, "It's no secret he's got a roving eye, and she's insecure when he's out of her sight."

The Legendary Singer's Friends Want Her To Focus More On Her Son

Amid the situation with Edwards, Cher's friends have reportedly advised her to place her focus on Elijah regardless of the rocky relationship they have had over the years.

"People are saying she needs to focus her attention and efforts on Elijah's well-being. He's her son – he needs her whether he realizes it or not," added the insider.

"She needs to keep trying to get close to him and not let him put her off," they further remarked.

As previously reported by The Blast, Cher and Elijah were locked in a fierce legal battle after she tried to place him under a conservatorship.

She claimed in legal documents that she was worried her son wouldn't be able to properly manage the money he receives from his late father's trust and would squander it on drugs.

However, after months of legal back-and-forths, the singer eventually gave in and dropped her request for a conservatorship, opting to fix her relationship with Elijah instead.

Cher's Friends Aren't Sure About Her Commitment To Helping Her Son

At the time Elijah was released from the hospital in June, a source told People Magazine that Cher is committed to helping her son get back on track.

"Like all mothers, she's doing everything she can to help her son and help him get well," the source revealed.

However, her going on getaways with her boytoy have baffled many who are aware of Elijah's sensitive situation.

"Why she's out embracing the spotlight when her son could be close to dying is baffling to everyone around her," said the source.

"She went from staging an intervention for Elijah to canoodling around Europe with her fancy guy," the source also remarked about Cher. "She's very flighty, and friends wonder if she's as committed to helping Elijah as she says she is."

Cher's Son Was Spotted In A Disturbing State In May

Weeks before Elijah's hospitalization in June, images of him went viral on the internet, showing him in a disturbing state at a Los Angeles hotspot, per the Daily Mail.

The former Deadsy band member wore an oversized polo and worn-out shorts that made him look like a homeless person.

His legs were visibly marked with sores, possibly from an injury sustained elsewhere, and he wore a dirty-looking pair of shoes. In his hands, he carried a half-smoked cigar, with one finger featuring a fake nail that added to his already disheveled appearance.

Elijah also had a glassy look in his eyes, which suggested he wasn't fully aware of his surroundings.
