Austin Butler's preparation for his new role as Henry "Hank" Thompson in Darren Aronofsky's upcoming movie, "Caught Stealing," involved some very intense and unusual studying.
Butler, 34, recently opened up about some behind-the-scenes tea regarding his latest film, which is scheduled for release on August 29, 2025.
In an interview with Men's Health about the movie, Austin Butler shared that director Darren Aronofsky had a very specific physical look in mind for the character, prompting him to assemble a unique collection of inspirational images.
Austin Butler Found Inspiration By Analyzing MLB Player's Butts For His New Movie Role

In the film, Butler's character is a former baseball player who ends up bartending and navigating the criminal world of New York City. To prepare for the role, Butler admitted that the film's director wanted his butt to be specifically toned so that he'd look the part of an ex-ball player.
To obtain the look, Butler said that Aronofsky actually sent him pictures of different MLB players' butts for inspiration, emphasizing how built they looked in baseball pants.
“I actually have a whole section of just baseball players’ asses that he would send me,” Butler said. “He was like, ‘Look how thick they are!’"
Austin Butler Worked With Hugh Jackman's Fitness Trainer To prepare for the Role

Elsewhere, during his interview, Butler shared that he couldn't achieve the derriere needed without professional help. To that end, he hired Beth Lewis, the trainer who's credited with helping actor Hugh Jackman transform into the Wolverine in the "X-Men" series.
According to Butler, while training for the movie, he was able to balance the intense workouts with some of his desires, including pizza and beer.
Butler also joked that while he's got the butt needed to play Hank now, he's had to part ways with a costly "section of Celine pants that I just can't even wear anymore."

Could Butler Be Joining The 'Pirates' Cast?

Aside from his latest role, The Blast previously reported that Butler might be the next man up to play the famous Jack Sparrow in the next "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie.
Johnny Depp was originally slated to reprise the role; however, his legal woes with his ex-wife, Amber Heard, put a damper on Disney's plans, causing them to reevaluate.
“Austin Butler and his team’s interest in the ['Pirates'] franchise has come at exactly the right time, and it doesn’t necessarily mean curtains for Margot [Robbie]’s take or even a return appearance by Johnny,” a source shared back in 2024. “The appeal of somebody like Austin is that he can completely transform into a character, and the potential is there to create something as unforgettable as Johnny’s work on the first film 21 years ago."
"Plus, he’s proven himself with accents, action, and even weird comedy," the source continued.
Is Butler Interested In Working With Disney?

But how likely is Butler to sign on? According to the source, the only thing holding him back is that he has not yet seen a script.
“There’s still no script, and Austin doesn’t sign up for a movie without seeing what the story is going to be," the report stated. "But unlike Margot and Johnny, you can easily imagine making three movies with Austin because he’s young, fit, and isn’t heavily tied to another franchise at a rival studio the way Margot is."
"They just need to get the script right, and there’s no reason Margot and Johnny can’t be invited to the party and make some surprise appearances or cameos, schedules permitting," they continued.
